To those engaged in scientific and industrial research seeking
an extremely accurate, non-contact type, linear measurement
system. The "TA" UniSlide measurement system will meet or
exceed the demands of the most discriminating researcher.
The UniSlide is a four inch wide aluminum dovetail base which
has been machined, lapped, and straightened to very stringent
tolerances. Into the base is fit a six inch long slider (moving
element) with polymer bearing pads bonded to it for many years
of wear life. The total travel is determined by the slider
length (6") subtracted from the total base length which is
available from 3" to 24" in 3" increments.
Attached to the slider is a linear encoder with a resolution
of 0.0002”/5 µm or 0.00005"/1 µm.
Unlike other systems that depend on rotary encoders and ground
lead screws, this system measures the actual linear movement.
Turning the knob/crank provides very fine positioning. Rapid
traversing is achieved by disengaging from the screw and manually
repositioning the slider by means of the unique rapid advance
system. This feature relieves the operator of traversing by
means of the knob/crank to the beginning position. ACU-Rite

The linear encoder is connected to a ND1001 DRO digital readout
which includes a RS-232 interface for logging incremental
data to a computer. Details
of ND1001.
The optional model TAB2 is a hand held two button remote
which plugs into the back of the DRO to provide convenient
print (upload to computer) and zero reset. Any TA system can
be specific to the researcher's needs by selecting the travel
and encoder resolution desired. If the work involves the use
of a microscope, Velmex has suggestions for most requirements
and a list of manufactures for these accessories.
The reliability, quality, and affordability make this system
important to those engaged in scientific research, quality
control, material analysis, and other pursuits where the above
features are of significant importance.
